"No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle." - Winston Churchill
I have always been very interested in progressive hoof care and track systems. I was a voracious reader on these topics for several years. I transitioned my horses to barefoot shortly after the Swedish barefoot eventing team won gold at the Tokyo olympics, and I haven't looked back since. The construction of the track and the introduction of various horse enrichment activities came a bit later, but it was well worth the effort.
I am a graduate of Ida Hammer's Whole Horse Trimming Program, and a current student of the Equine Science Academy as well as Dr. Eleanor Kellon's National Research Council Recommendations for feeding horses Plus Course. I also follow the work of Pete Ramey, Jamie Jackson, and Dr Robert Bowker, striving to stay current with their research.
*While I am a strong advocate for barefoot hooves due to current scientific research indicating better traction, flexibility, circulation, thermodynamics, and reduced concussive forces on the hoof, joints and body -- I also believe that in rare cases, a static hoof capsule created by a shod hoof may be necessary.
